Kurt had a tip this morning that there would be an announcement regarding Mizzou moving to the Big 10, so we were running around all morning trying to find out if there was anything to it. It was surprisingly exciting.

I’ve never really covered any breaking news and had to track people down. I finally got ahold of Chad Moller, the media relations man for MU athletics who shot the notion down, saying it was just speculation. This’ll be an interesting story to keep an eye on. The ramifications of a move would be huge, both financially and culturally and could have a huge impact on the future of Mizzou sports.

This was a good week for Missouri football. Sean Weatherspoon was drafted 19th overall by the Atlanta Falcons, the third MU player to be chosen in the first round in the last two years. Only Oklahoma and Florida have produced more first-round picks during that period. It’s quite amazing the distance Gary Pinkel has taken this team, even since I’ve been at Mizzou. I was fortunate enough to miss some of the more barren years, but the hole this entire program was in when he arrived makes that achievement even more astonishing.

The weather has put a bit of a cramp in our style this weekend. Baseball was rained out last night and will- weather permitting- host a double-header against Kansas State this afternoon.

Things really started up again this week. We had some big news with the addition of two new basketball recruits, followed by the announcement of two transfers.

Football’s spring game was this weekend, so Heather and I wrote a few articles about that.

The NFL draft is Thursday and Sean Weatherspoon is likely to be off the board some time in the first round, so stick with us for coverage on that.

And finally, baseball and softball are moving into Big 12 play, so we’ll be doing our best to cover those as well.

With basketball season over and the usual pre-spring break craziness, this wasn’t a particularly productive week. We had a good talk with Kurt about what we’ll be focusing on over the next six weeks. Lots of spring football with a sprinkling of baseball and softball. We also discussed strategies of how to increase our Twitter followers. We’re planning on talking to some social media folk around town to get a better idea of how to market our content.

Bit of a slow week as we didn’t get credentials for the Big 12 tournament, made even slower by Missouri’s early exit. Here’s a story I wrote after the Nebraska game on how much the team misses Justin Safford.

We’ll have some coverage of Selection Sunday, then maybe a tournament preview. Depending on how far they progress (not far I’m assuming), we’ll get started on covering some other sports in a week or so.

I learned the hard way this week that journalism is pretty cut-throat. Heather and I both got bumped form our normal spots at the basketball games for the game against Kansas. She got moved to the ‘auxiliary’ row, which is a folding chair behind 20 rows of people standing up- not exactly a prime viewing spot. I got shoved out completely, so the slideshow this week is just of the senior day festivities.

Big 12 tournament starts this week; not sure exactly how we’ll be covering it, but we’ll come up with something.

Just one more game, against Kansas next weekend. If they’re still ranked No. 1 (and I don’t see any reason why they wouldn’t be) that place will be a madhouse. It’s crowded enough for Colorado, I wouldn’t be surprised if we’re moved to Hearnes Center to watch the game.

More of the same this week. I took photos again while Heather wrestled with the national media to get a good seat. I also had my closest call with a diving player, narrowly avoiding an out-of-control Justin Mason. However, after checking the video replay from all angles, it wasn’t nearly as close as I thought and I looked like much more of a wuss. Regardless, all my bones are still intact, so good news on that front.

Heather agreed to let me have another crack at photography at the game on Wednesday. It didn’t go quite as well as last time; I had some technical issues with the camera so I was a little limited, but I think I turned out a couple good pictures. Here’s the link to the slideshow.

I also wrote a preview on the Iowa State game and am in the process of writing one for the Baylor game. I’ll put that link in when it’s done. (UPDATE: Baylor preview)

We finally got some work done on our project this week. I took photos of the Texas A&M basketball game while Heather tweeted from the press box. Here’s the slideshow of the game. It was actually a lot of fun to do, but really, really hard. Everyone knows they’re big and fast, but you really can’t appreciate just how much so until you’re three feet away from them.

J.T. Tiller takes it to the basket against Texas A&M. Tiller finished with 12 points, but missed a game-tying three-pointer as time expired.

I also wrote a quick recap of football signing day. There should also be a short piece on Saturday’s game in Colorado up that afternoon. (UPDATE: Heather’s piece on the Colorado game)
